Ivory Won’t Be Calling Me for Casting

You know those commercials for soap where the chick is washing her face and she leans over the sink and splashes water on her face to rinse off the soap? She’s all smiley and carefree. The water blasting the germs off her face in one quick splash.

Who the hell does that?

Seriously. Because when I try to wash my face like that I end up soaking wet. Water dripping off my face and onto my shirt. My hairline matted down from the wayward splashing.

And don’t even get me started on the condition of the actual bathroom when I’m done. How do you get water on both the mirror high above the surface of your intended splash zone and on every possible surface of the vanity below? I don’t know but it happens every time I try to wash my face like the graceful bitches in those commercials.

Plus, am I really washing it all away? My face never really feels clean if I just delicately rinse away the soap with a handful of water. So I’m not buying this as an effective method of cleansing.

Give me a washcloth and let me scrub away my skin.

  • I don’t know. I never had that problem. I’m more like the girl in the commercial.

  • Mark—How can we aspire to that sort of face washing nirvana?

Shades—Seriously? How do you not get water everywhere?

  • Plus, the fact that is smells like soap. It needs to have a better scent. Even for us manly men.

Marty—What kind of scent would a manly man like yourself prefer?

And what about hair models? Are wind machines to hair models what teleprompters are to Obama…they never go anywhere without them?

Dean—Ummm… That’s an interesting analogy you’re making there.

  • I don’t know. It’s just never been a problem. I just cup water in my hands, splash it on my face, but let the sides of my hands continue to shield my hairline from the water. Years of practice, maybe? I’ve never given it a second thought!

  • Shades—Hmm…must be from all the practice.

I hardly ever use a washcloth unless I’m doing a scrub or a mask; but I wouldn’t say I am graceful with the water, either. I sort of cup my hands with water in them and dip parts of my face into the quickly-dissipating water pools in my hands (because hands are horrible at holding water). Splashing doesn’t work because I will definitely splash it into my eye (even if my eyes are closed; somehow, it happens) and all over the vanity and floor. I’m pretty sure I look incredibly stupid when I’m washing my face. “Oh, it’s the girl who dips her face-parts into her hands. DORK!”

*Pixie* and the Graceful Bitches sounds like a good punk band.

  • I too make a mess whenever I wash my face. I don’t like using a washcloth so I do the hands cupped with water technique too. And I proceed to get myself, the sink and the mirror completely soaked. My husband hates the night after he has just cleaned the counter and sinks because I make it a mess again after only a few hours of being clean. But I can’t help it.

Chock this up to something else Shades is fabulous at. I would hate her if I didn’t love her so much. :)

  • Ok. I took special note when I washed my face yesterday. I had completely forgotten that, somehow, over the years, my aversion to splashing water on my eyes unnecessarily caused me to alter my face-rinsing method. First I cup my hands, and splash the water over the lower half of my face: nose, cheeks, everything under the eyes. Repeat a few times to make sure everything is rinsed. THEN I wet my fingers and splash water only on my forehead/temples.

It’s odd, but it works… And that would explain the lack of water on the mirror or anywhere else. It seems to stay pretty contained with this method.

But when I want extra exfoliation I do use the washcloth to apply my cleanser, and also to wipe it off.

  • ICHD—Our first single could be Splash Face.

    Vegas Princess—Maybe she’s a robot.

    Shades—Interesting…
