So you may or may not know that this morning I was interviewed by the very sweet Laura Rice from our local NBC 24 news. Laura contacted me recently on doing a piece about the way we share personal information on the internet. As a mom that blogs—NOT a “mommy blogger”—Laura was hoping I would help with the story.
Which, as you probably deduced from that first sentence, I did.
Laura wanted to know how I find balance in what I choose to share with the world and over-sharing. I think it’s simple. Use common sense. Be yourself. Don’t be malicious.
You know, don’t give your keys to the stranger sitting on your front porch.
The piece airs tonight during the 6:00 news. Ironically, with our crappy rabbit ear antenna, we don’t get that particular station and I’m going to have to wait for the link to be put up on the internet. Obviously I will share that with all of you that also miss it tonight.
And…if you are here because of that story, welcome! Take a look around. Don’t be afraid. We are all very nice here.
Oh, and be sure to leave a comment to let me know that you stopped by—and what you thought of the story.
Edit: The video is now up. You can check it out here.

I find it so interesting that you have been tapped to talk about this topic, Holly. After our conversation during the last Tweetup, I have a sense of some of your thoughts and will be so interested to watch the show and see how the conversation unfolded.
I’m working on a project right now so may have to wait for the Internet version and will keep my eyes peeled for the link.
Go Pixie! Oh, and yes. I think it does go toward those 15 minutes of fame.

Thanks Allen. Interesting timing, no? Of course our hour conversation was trimmed down to just a few soundbites, but even so…not bad.

I know when I was on they ended up archiving the video on their site, I just missed the broadcast tonight. Maybe they’ll reshow in the 7:00 hour of news.

Hi Holly! I know you hate hit and runs on your blog and didn’t want to leave without checking in.
I will find the video and give my impressions of it.

Great job! You were very knowledgeable in your answers and you gave us bloggers a great review. Nice to see something positive about blogging rather than the regular bad talk that is usually associated with putting your life out for all to read on the Internet. And your advice was brilliant. Plus you looked amazing and G-tot so adorable! And my favorite part was the screen shot of a time you mentioned his wiener.
Leave it to the news to put that on there. We are so sneaky. From a news person perspective, that was a really great piece, well put together and fun to watch. Just wondering how they got your old masthead from your old site. IS it still up? And how did they discover you in the first place? Does the reporter read your blog or tweets?

The reporter found me by searching for Toledo blogs and following a few links that led her to my old blog—which led her to the new one. I have no idea why they would show my old masthead in the piece. Maybe the new one didn’t film well contrast-wise? Who knows.
I had to laugh that she would find and film “your wiener” from a post that is at least a month or two old.
Thanks for the encouraging words from someone in the biz.

I also giggled at the shot of the word wiener. Not because it said “wiener” but because you hardly ever talk about those kinds of things and yet they managed to find that word. And unlike VP, I am not in the news but I do think the piece was put together really well and it was engaging. But then again, you and G-tot were in it. If you two danced to “Puttin’ On The Ritz” I probably would’ve loved it as well. haha Anyway, like I said in my email to you, I am so proud of you and keep the fun times coming!
