I’ve been experimenting with some different mediums in my work lately. As many of you already know, I’ve been playing around with screen printing. I’ve had the most success with shirts so far but usually pull a few prints on paper every time I print a shirt. A couple of the screens I made are from simple line drawings. Practically an outline just waiting to be filled with color. So that’s what I’ve started doing.
I had this idea a couple of weeks ago to put watercolors on top of the pulled prints. When I was looking at the supplies I noticed several sets of watercolor pencils. Perfect. You use them like a colored pencil and then blend the colors with water. It has been ridiculously fun. I love the contrast between the processes. One that allows for quick reproduction—screen printing—and the more meticulous nature of putting in the color with a pencil. Then the print transforms once more when I start adding water. Each print ultimately becomes a one of a kind piece.
What do you think?
